- Dial Directory Compress Utility for PC-TALK III Version C
-
- -- Jim Gainsley [76703,1007] --
-
-
- The program PCTCDD.EXE, may be used to reduce the file size of a PC-TALK III
- Dial Directory, PC-TALK.DIR, that has been contracted after having been
- previously expanded.
-
- It NOT necessary to run this program, unless you are just interested in
- reducing the *physical* file size in bytes, AFTER it has been *logically*
- reduced by PC-TALK.
-
- To illustrate:
-
- You have expanded the directory from 60 to 100 dialing entries. Then you
- decide to reduce it back to 60 entries. All of this is accomplished
- within PC-TALK, using the S option in the Alt-D routine.
-
- A 60-entry dial directory is 8291 bytes. A 100-entry is 12032 bytes.
- After PC-TALK finishes reducing the logical size to 60 entries, the
- directory will still show as being 12032 bytes. The 'extra' bytes
- are not used anymore.
-
- PCTCDD compress this directory from 12032, back to 8192, or the
- absolute size required for the number of dialing entries (60) that
- you've set it for.
-
- To run, type PCTCDD at the DOS prompt. You'll be asked where the
- file PC-TALK.DIR is located, and where you want the compressed
- new directory placed.
-
- The use of PCTCDD has NO effect on the operation of PC-TALK. The 'old'
- .DIR file is renamed to extension .BAK and is not affected by PCTDD.
- The 'new' directory is of course called PC-TALK.DIR.
